Shawna Lynne (Raat) Collins

June 18, 1949 ~ July 25, 2018 (age 69)

On July 25th, 2018 Our loving mother, grandmother and dear friend Shawna Lynne Collins (Raat) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She succumed to the effects of rapid onset dementia and a long battle with diabetes.

Shawna was born on June 18th, 1949 at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah to loving parents James E. Raat and Bette E. Eldredge Raat joining big brother James Scott Raat to round out the family.

Shawna spent her first few years in Ogden, then the family moved to La Mirada, Ca where she graduated from La Mirada High School Class of 1967.

On July 11th, 1967 she married Royce L. Collins in Ogden. The two of them loved each other fiercely and had 5 children together ( James, Jacki, Jeffrey, Amanda & Dusty), they later divorced but were able to forgive one another and renewed thier friendship later on in life.

After her divorce Shawna fell in love with a wonderful man named Charles Fowers who loved her and loved her children as his own and in addition bringing our brother Chad Fowers into the family and a short time later our blended family was completed by the arrival of baby brother Michael Fowers. We never played that "half-brother" "step-kid" crap in our home. We always stuck together and looked out for one another.

Mama loved to cook for her family and always had just enough left for another plate.

Shawna, loved her childrens friends and "adopted" so many of them and genuinely appreciated the long lasting friendships that have grown through the years.

Shawna loved to knit and crochet blankets, dolls and an endless variety of stuffed animals for her 25 grandchildren. She loved each of them so much! She also had 4 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly and was excited to learn 2 more are on the way.

Shawna loved it when she could get everybody together Thanksgiving, Christmas or any other reason for that matter. Thanksgiving was her favorite though. Having all of us under one roof laughing, joking, just being together and there was always a special welcome for her Eastman sons Bret & Rich as well as many other "adopted kids" who were always welcome.

Shawna had a special love for animals rescued many cats and dogs along the way but her all time favorite was her English Bulldog Dozer, she loved him very much and always missed him.

Shawna loved the Denver Broncos and never even pretended to feel bad when they beat our Cowboys.

Shawna was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and her daughter Jacki (Jim) Webb.

She is survived by her son James (Tina) Collins, son Chad (Tory)Fowers, son Jeff (Tara) Collins, daughter Mandy Collins, son Dusty Collins, and son Michael (Amy)Fowers. Grandchildren Steffy, Chase, Britany, Tyler, Caleb, Devin, Tiffanie, Kayleigh, Sierra, Preston, Jenaya,Jaymie, Jordyn, Jaden, Lydia, Blake, Shawna, Sammantha, Marriah, Desi, MaKayla, Alicia, Avery & Luke. Great Grandchildren Jaylee, Jett, Milo & Santiago.

A special thank you to Shawna's friends Kim and Roxann for all they did and being there for mom. A huge thank you to Tara Stirling for the loving care and kindness shown to mom during her ordeal. Thank you to John (KayDean) Griffith our "brutha from another mutha" for all the times you dropped your plans and took Mama to the doctor and looked in on her. And thanks to all for your prayers and kind words. Shawna loved all of you very much and we all know she will be sorely missed.

Celebration of life services will be held August 18, 2018 at Oaklawn Park from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
