Alfonso Robert Vigil passed away peacefully at his home on February 23, 2026, following a long-term illness.
He was born on September 14, 1952, in Ogden, Utah, to Mary O. Martinez Vigil and Alfonso M. Vigil. The oldest of his six siblings.
Robert graduated from Clearfield High School and later attended barber school, pursuing a career that allowed him to connect with people every day. He proudly owned and operated Vigil’s Barber Shop in Ogden, Utah, where he built lasting friendships and became familiar with many in the community.
On March 8, 1997, Robert married Cheryl Burnett. Although they later divorced, they soon realized they were meant to be together and reunited, remaining side by side until his passing. Cheryl was truly the love of his life.
Robert accomplished his lifelong dream of building a log cabin on his three-acre property in Taylor, Utah. Built alongside his brothers—a place he cherished deeply. There, he created a life close to the land, raising horses, dogs, cats, goats, and ducks on his three acres. He loved Native American culture and expressed that admiration by decorating his home to reflect it, his artwork, painting hides and skulls, and building native American drums. He was always building something. He even set up a teepee in his backyard.
An avid outdoorsman, Robert found joy in camping, fishing, skiing, hunting, horseback riding, and spending time in the mountains. Robert loved spending time with friends and family hosting epic parties, wedding receptions and family gatherings at his home. He loved his Harley, especially when riding alongside his brother Mark.
Robert was a lifelong jokester. you could never tell if he was being serious or joking. Making people laugh is part of who he was. Though he sometimes tried to appear tough, those who knew him best knew he was a big teddy bear at heart. He was known for his playful sense of humor—when asked, “What you doing?” he’d always reply with “going to Alabama!”
Robert is survived by his sweetheart, Cheryl Vigil; his son, Shayne (Dena) Vigil; his stepdaughters, Rainee (Aaron) Norris and Chelcee Gallegos; and his beloved grandchildren: Olivia, Ava, Lyla, Zachary Vigil, Isaac Norris, Nick Jr., Amya, and Angelina Martinez. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Vigil; his siblings, Saul Vigil (Jackie), Paul Vigil, and Jamie Vigil; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfonso M. Vigil; his sister, Rita; his brother, Mark Vigil; and his sister-in-law, Kayla Vigil.
Robert will be remembered for his humor, his generous heart, his love of family, and his deep appreciation for the outdoors and the life he built with his own hands. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and love.
