Augustus “Gus” Richard Burbank passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He was born on February 24, 1947, in Brigham City, Utah, the second of eight children and the eldest son of Augustus Lowell and Louisa Miller Burbank.

Gus married his sweetheart, Quay Etoy Call of Layton, Utah, on September 8, 1972, in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they shared more than 53 years of devoted marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Gus graduated from Box Elder High School in 1965 and attended Utah State University for two years. He then served a faithful two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California. Shortly after returning home, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in ground operations against hostile forces. He was honorably discharged in early 1971.

After completing his military service, Gus returned to school at Weber State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He then dedicated nearly 30 years to public service at Hill Air Force Base, where he retired as Deputy Director for Finance Management.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gus served in many callings throughout his life. He especially loved working with youth in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Activity Days. He shared his extensive knowledge of woodworking, metalworking, home and vehicle repair, and taught countless young people the value of hard work, patriotism, and living a meaningful, contributing life.

Gus and Quay loved traveling together, visiting national parks, taking cruises, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. In retirement, Gus remained active in his many hobbies, including restoring his 1940 Chevrolet sedan, metal fabrication and welding, woodworking, tracking personal finances, and collecting tools. Above all, he found his greatest joy in caring for his beloved wife, Quay. Gus was truly a man of many talents—a master of all trades.

He is survived by his loving wife, Quay; his children: Elizabeth “Lisa” Louise Burbank; Augustus Luke (Susan) Burbank; and Chantal Quay (Josh) Thurber; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his siblings: Penelope Burbank; Melanie (Ned) Young; Christine (Mike) Buckley; and Scott (Janalee) Burbank. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Susan Gallego, Eugene Burbank and Louisa Bond.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2228 South 1660 West, Syracuse, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Aaron’s Mortuary, 1050 South State Street, Clearfield, Utah, and again Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will follow at Syracuse City Cemetery, 1250 S 1000 W, Syracuse, Utah, where military honors will be accorded at 12:30 p.m.
