Beth (Howard) Olsen

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Beth Howard Olsen, 96, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021, in Bountiful, UT.

Beth was born August 30, 1924, in Magna, UT to LeRoy Howard and Mary Jacobs. She was raised in Magna where she met her sweetheart, George Legrand Olsen. They were married January 5 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After her marriage to George, he secured employment at HAFB and they built a home in Clearfield, UT, where they raised their four children. After George’s retirement in 1977, they split their time between homes in Clearfield and Yuma, AZ. They loved the ‘snowbird’ life and enjoyed adventures in Arizona, making many friends along the way.

Beth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her time and romance with George spanned more than 71 years, until his death in May of 2015. They adored each other and were a great example to their children and grandchildren of a successful marriage. Beth missed George terribly and the thought of their reunion has brought the family tremendous peace.

Beth loved her children and supported them in good times and in bad. Never wavering in her commitment to help them succeed and be happy.

Beth loved being a grandma and made each of her 12 grandchildren feel they were her favorite. The same devotion she had for her children she extended to her grandchildren. Some of their favorite memories with Grandma include: her homemade Christmas PJs and quilts, playing in the yard irrigation, something sweet from her purse, and tight bear hugs.

Beth enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting, and reading. She was sensitive to the needs of others and found ways to reach out to them whether in private conversation, or written correspondence. She was humble at heart and quiet on the surface but had a private special depth of character reserved only for her family and closest friends.

Beth was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints She was self-employed for many years, running a beauty salon out of her own home.

Beth is preceded in death by her loving husband, George, brother (LeRoy), and grandson (Todd). She is survived by her children: Legrand (Vera) Olsen, West Bountiful, UT; Randy (Dean) Demoss, Topeka, KS: Howard (Dana) Huntsville, UT; Bethann (Randy) McDonald Washington, UT; and Jeanne Barker Olsen, Virginia. 12 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren 1 great-great grandchild, Brother Dan Howard and Sister Jane Toone.

The family would like to thank Legacy House of Bountiful for their love, kindness and care of mom.

Beth and George lived a few houses down the street from us in Yuma. It was always a joy to see Beth as she made her daily walk past our home. She always had a friendly "hello". We also got to see each other as we attended church at the Branch. She had a sweet spirit and I was happy to have her as a friend. I have missed her the past few years and now know she is happy to be with George again. You are very blessed to have had her as a mother and grandmother.
