Coreen Sorensen Winward passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, with her beloved husband by her side.
She was born on February 26, 1957, in Logan, Utah, to Ivaloo Ruby Anderson and Leonard Wayne Sorensen. Cory was the youngest of their four daughters. She graduated from Sky View High School.
Cory married the love of her life, Lewis Kay Winward, on June 1, 1978, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. She was a devoted wife and an exceptional mother, and her family was always her greatest joy.
In addition to being a talented homemaker, Cory worked at ZCMI and Dillard’s. She later served as a substitute teacher for the Box Elder and Weber School Districts.
Cory was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. One of her favorite callings was in the Young Women organization, where she lovingly served and mentored others. Her devotion to her Heavenly Father was evident in all she did. She lovingly made hundreds of quilts for young adults in her ward as they prepared for marriage.
Dancing was one of Cory’s great joys, a beautiful expression of her vibrant spirit and love for life. She enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, especially accompanying her husband on fishing trips, where she loved to read while he fished. Above all else, Cory cherished her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Cory is a great example of strength, compassion, forgiveness and selflessness. She endured more pain than anyone ever should, yet even in her hardest moments, she always though of others before herself. She taught her family the power of kindness, of truly listening and of standing up for those who need an advocate.
Cory loved deeply, her friends, her family and her beloved cats, who brought her so much comfort and joy. Her love was steady, genuine and it lives on in everyone who was blessed enough to know her.
As our family looks through the photos, it brings us joy and tears. We had so many fun adventures. Our family will carry her lessons with us every day; her compassion is our guide; her strength, our foundation and her love will continue to be a part of us. We miss you more than words can say, Mom, we hope to honor you in everything we do.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis Winward; her children: Levi (Kalie) Winward, Bryn (Andrea) Winward, Kayla (Brady) Lemons, and Dante (Charlee) Winward; and her twelve grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Violet (Larry) Brandon, Elaine Gleed, and Ruth (Dennis) Peterson; and her parents-in-law, William and Elda Winward.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Douglas Gleed; and a nephew and niece.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held on Cory’s birthday.
Interment will take place at a later time at the Willard Cemetery.
