Brigham City, Utah — DeOrr Smith, a lifelong resident of Brigham City and a man defined by his gentle spirit and adventurous heart, passed away on April 1, 2026. He was 74.
Born on July 2, 1951, to Arvol Smith and Elsie Kimber, DeOrr was the youngest of 4. In his younger years, DeOrr was a man of action—from skydiving and bungee jumping to cruising on his Indian motorcycle. He was well-known for his long red hair, which he famously cut only because he kept shutting it in his car door.
He married GayLynn Tolboe on March 24, 1978, in Reno, Nevada, they have 3 beautiful children.
DeOrr was kind and soft-spoken; he truly never met a stranger. While he worked at Thiokol, his true calling was his family. He was an Amazing Dad and “Professional” Grandpa. He poured his heart into his children and grandchildren, earning a reputation for being the gold standard of what a father should be.
He began the Smith Annual Camping Trip held the first weekend in August at Blacksmith Fork Canyon. A gathering of close friends grew into a major annual event.
He is survived by his wife: GayLynn; his children: Tyson (Cindy) Smith, Cody (Holly) Smith and Megan Smith; 6 grandchildren: Gage, Preston Aspen, Kelsye, Kensington, Kysen; and 3 bonus grandchildren: Dylan, Beau, and Charli. Also survived by his siblings: Ron (Beverly) Smith and DeAnn (Carl) Meadows, sister-in-law Marilyn Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
DeOrr was preceded in death by sweet Baby Kai (his beloved grandson); his brother Arvol Dale Smith, and his parents.
The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life honoring his memory on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Aaron’s Mortuary, 888 South Main Street, Brigham City, Utah.
Friends and loved ones are welcome to gather from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a time of sharing memories at 2:00 p.m., with lunch to follow as an opportunity to visit, reflect, and continue honoring his life together.
The family encourages everyone to consider a memorial camping trip this year in his honor. In his memory, be kind, speak softly, and never miss a chance to head to the canyon.
Condolences to the family may be expressed here on DeOrr’s Memorial Page.
