Douglas Robert Carrier

Douglas Robert Carrier, 62, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his home from heart failure. He was born January 30, 1946, in Cortland, New York, to Robert Leslie and Marjorie Wafer Carrier. He married his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine (Geri) Fitzgerald July 1, 1967, in Freeville, New York. Doug joined the Air Force in September 1968 as an aircraft maintenance technician. In addition to serving in Vietnam, his career took him to California, Georgia, Arkansas, Germany, and New Jersey. He earned degrees from the Community College of the Air Force and the University of Maryland. After retiring from the Air Force with nearly 23 years of service, Doug was self-employed in small engine repair. He and Geri moved to Utah in 2002 and Doug worked for L3 Communications as an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base. Doug was a member of the Catholic Church. His hobbies included baking, coin collecting, and space exploration. He was also an active member of the Top of Utah Newcomers Club. Doug is survived by his wife, Geri, and son, Allen Robert (Linda) Carrier, Boonville, MO; brother, Eber (Mary) Richard Carrier, Clovis, NM; sisters, Joan Marjorie (Gordon) Sykes, Murphy, NC, and Carole Lee (Kendall) Minges, Glens Falls, NY; and cousin, Melvin (Marti) Peck, Locke, NY; and beloved friend Captain Jon Paskewitz, USAF, currently serving in Seoul, South Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brothers, Dale and David. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Hill Air Force Base Chapel. Please RSVP to Sally Carter at (801) 476-3005. Interment will be at Virgil Cemetery in Virgil, New York at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the United Service Organization (USO) or the American Heart Association.
