Hal Ivan Himes

Hal Ivan Himes, of Brigham City, Utah, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 23, at the age of 95. Hal was born June 18, 1930, in Park City, Utah, the last of six children, to Mary and Charles Himes.

Hal graduated from Park City High School and enlisted in the Navy the same day. He served four years in the Pacific during the Korean War. Upon his long-awaited discharge, he returned to Utah to study aeronautical engineering at Utah State University. In 1955 he married his sweetheart, Marjorie Buck, also of Park City.

After Hal earned his bachelor’s degree, the couple moved to Southern California, where Hal worked for multiple engineering firms, including Lockheed, Rocketdyne, and Aerospace. Eventually they settled in Redlands, California, where they raised their four children: Doug, Carl, Bret, and Patricia. Marge and Hal retired to Brigham City in 2000.

Hal served tirelessly as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Yucaipa Gem & Mineral Club, serving several years as its president. Each summer brought a new road trip for his young family, exploring the beauty and history of the West Coast and the Intermountain West. He loved to garden; for many years the garden at his Brigham City home was a neighborhood attraction. Hal was a devoted genealogist. He was also an avid Park City historian, donating many original photographs and historical items to the Park City Museum.

Hal is survived by his sons, Doug and Bret, his daughter Patricia, 17 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, his son, Carl, his parents, siblings, and most of his friends.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Brigham City South Stake Center, 865 South 300 West. The celebration will include military honors, a life sketch, impromptu tributes from the guests, and a luncheon. A graveside service will follow at the city cemetery in Park City, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend all.
