Jeanette Louise Peet Barber, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 88.

Jeanette was born January 20, 1937, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, to Leonard and Violet Peet. She grew up in Newfoundland and attended school in St. John’s Bishop Spencer College. Following her education, she worked as an administrative assistant.

Jeanette’s life changed forever when she met G. Keith Barber on a blind date when he was temporarily stationed in St. John’s, Newfoundland with the Air Force. They had a whirlwind 10-day courtship before Keith was transferred to Saglek, Labrador for a year. They corresponded faithfully during that time. At the end of the year in Saglek, Keith returned to St. John’s to complete his service. Keith was honorably discharged in June of 1960 and returned to Pueblo, Colorado to attend college and wait for Jeanette to immigrate to the United States. Jeanette and Keith got engaged in December of 1960 when Jeanette came to visit him for Christmas.

Independent and determined, Jeanette worked and saved to support herself before immigrating to the United States to be with Keith. They were married on September 28, 1962, in Pueblo, Colorado.

The couple first made their home in Pocatello, Idaho, where Keith was employed with AT&T. During their years in Pocatello, they welcomed their two sons, Scott and Steve, into their family. In 1971 they moved to Brigham City, Utah, where Jeanette and Keith built a beautiful life together.

Jeanette was a warm, vibrant, and social person who made friends everywhere she went. She was active in her community through Newcomers group, the Elks Lodge, and working at Bill Flack’s insurance office, all while keeping in touch with her friends and family back home. She loved skiing, camping, and line dancing, and always carried herself with style and grace.

Her home was a place of welcome—cherry cake, cookies, a cup of coffee, and conversation were always waiting, and no invitation was ever needed. Jeanette cherished time with family, finding joy in every gathering, large or small. She especially loved the many camping trips to Redfish Lake, where family and friends gathered year after year to share laughter, stories, and the beauty of the mountains.

After retirement, Jeanette and Keith spent many happy years traveling in their fifth wheel throughout the western United States and British Columbia. They made many friends along the way during their yearly winter stays in the Fort Mohave area and Riverside Adventure Trails campground.

Jeanette is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, G. Keith Barber; her sons, Scott Barber and Steve (Jenni) Barber; her sister, Shirley (Rudy) Baird; and her grandchildren, Annie, Shae (Maddie Melton), and Kelsey; and her niece Renee Baird and her two children Cole and Chelsea Barber.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Violet Peet; her nephew, Chris Baird; and her nephew-in-law, Lance Barber.

Jeanette will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her unwavering love for her family, and her openhearted hospitality. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
