Joann Marie Phillips

April 6, 1930 — June 27, 2025

Ogden

Joann (Jo) Marie Phillips, 95, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love, after a long and joyful life. Born on April 6, 1930, in West Frankfort, Illinois, Jo was an only child who grew up with a deep appreciation for family, friends, sunshine, and animals.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Minnesota in 1951, paving the way for a dynamic and successful career. Jo held leadership roles during her time in North Carolina and Florida as a manager at WRZK radio station, manager of Miller and Rhoads Department Store, and manager in the cosmetics and stationery industries. She brought her signature warmth and charisma to every role.

Jo’s greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished sunny days by the pool or beach and had a lifelong love for animals, especially the many dogs and cats she cared for. She had a special place in her heart for retired racing greyhounds, adopting and caring for several over the years, giving them the peaceful and loving homes they deserved. She also loved cooking for family and friends, and she was very good at it.

She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, generous spirit, and the way she made everyone feel loved. Jo had a gift for giving thoughtful presents and always found ways to help those around her.

Jo is survived by her son David Phillips and his wife Terry, her grandchildren Joshua Phillips, Kevin Phillips (Sarah), and Lindsay Butterfield (Chris), and six great-grandchildren: James, Lela, Charlie, Jack, Ryan and Murphy. She was preceded in death by her beloved partner William McLaurin and her son Joseph Michael Phillips.

A private family gathering will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local animal shelter in Jo’s memory.
