Joseph Lavar Bagshaw was born December 9, 1962, to Joseph A. Bagshaw & Wanda Bagshaw in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He died on March 15, 2025, at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah after a long battle with COPD.
Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1980 as a Tow Gunner where he received numerous letters of commendation for being an exemplary soldier. He continued his military service in the Army Reserves from 1983 until 1991.
While on leave in the military Joe met the love of his life Trudy Simmons, whom he married on November 20, 1982.
Joe loved being outdoors camping, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed being able to teach his grandkids life skills as well as tinkering on vehicle repairs with his son and grandsons. He was always happy anytime he was able to be with his family.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Bagshaw; stepmom, Darlene Bagshaw; brother, Aaron Bagshaw; in-laws, William & Dorthy Simmons; sister-in-law, Denise Knight; and grandparents.
Joe is survived by wife, Trudy Bagshaw; daughter, Nicole (Phillip) Bergeron; son, Justin (Angelica) Bagshaw; five grandchildren: Adrian, Collette, Kamden, Kiara, and Dorthy, whom he loved with his whole heart; his mother, Wanda Nielson; sister, Jolene Bagshaw; brother, David Bagshaw; and adopted sister, Marisa LaVue. He is also survived by his niece, Michele (Tyson) Michelson; nephew, Joshua (Alyssa) Knight; and all their combined children: Amelia, Emery, Eli, Annie, Evie, and Lily, whom he loved as if they were his own children and grandchildren. He is survived by numerous other nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Joe selflessly chose to donate his kidneys and liver, giving three people the opportunity at better, healthier lives.
The family would like to thank Layton Hospital, Intermountain Life Flight, McKay Dee Hospital, and Donor Connect for helping guide us through this very difficult time as well as for the exemplary care given to Joe up to the very end.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Joe’s honor on June 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post #134 located at 345 Depot Street, Clearfield, Utah 84015.
