Judy C. Werito passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born on May 4, 1940, in Nageezi, New Mexico, to Patricio and Alice Castillo. She was born to the Naakaii Diné (Mexican clan) and born for Tódích’íí’nii (Bitter Water) a heritage she carried with pride throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricio and Alice Castillo; daughters, Jeanette Charlie and Patricia Matheson; her sisters: Julia Charley, Juanita Toledo, and Lora Castillo; her brother, Fred Castillo; and great grandsons, Kee and Kaejay Bileen.
Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Annette Whiteeagle of Ogden, Utah, Barbara and Scott Matheny of Ogden, Utah, Truby Werito of Bloomfield, New Mexico, Jackson Werito of Roy, Utah, Beverly and Tiai Levi of Ogden, Utah, and Rhiannon Nelson, whom she raised. She also leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
She is also survived by her siblings: Betty Werito of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Virginia Harkes of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Clarence Castillo of Nageezi, New Mexico.
Throughout her life, Judy touched countless lives through her kindness, strength, and unwavering faith. She was a woman who gave selflessly, always putting others before herself. Her words carried wisdom, and her presence brought comfort, peace, and love to everyone around her. She had a rare gift she made people feel seen, heard, and truly understood.
Judy was a faithful member of Potter’s House Christian Center, where she gave her life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and worshipped Him for over 30 years. She was known as a prayer warrior, a spiritual pillar, and the heartbeat of her church community. Her faith was not only spoken but lived daily.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially those who lovingly called her “Grandma Judy.”
Her love, her strength, and her spirit will live on in every life she touched. 🤍
