Kenneth J. Kearney

OGDEN- Kenneth J. Kearney, 90, died peacefully at home on January 10, 2009. He was born in Lehi, Utah on January 5, 1919 to Michael Edward and Erma Lee Gordon Kearney.

He graduated from Lehi High School and attended BYU. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1941, serving many years in England during WWII. On May 18, 1942 he married Ann Marie Miller in Salt Lake City. They became the parents of four children. After twenty-two years of marriage, Ann died on April 15, 1964. On November 15, 1966 Ken married Donna Osmond in the Logan Utah Temple. He adopted Donnas' three children and he and Donna subsequently had five more children.

Ken was a commercial artist all his adult life, working first for the Salt Lake City newspapers, the Stewart-Fisher Advertising Agency, the Ogden Standard Examiner and finally going into business for himself, forming Pierson and Kearney Advertising and Art.

After retiring he moved his family to St. George, working for the Spectrum as an artist and becoming a realtor. He returned with his family to the Ogden area in the 1980's. Ken continued to do free-lance commercial art well into his eighties. He was an accomplished water-colorist as well.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ken served faithfully in many callings, including bishop and high councilman.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Osmond; a sister, Beverly Milne Eckersley; five sons: Michael Kearney, Brian (Ida) Kearney, Brett (Diana) Kearney, Sean (Jeri) Kearney, Jacob Kearney, and five daughters; Suzanne Kearney, Janet (Bill) Roberts, Marcell Kearney, Brook (Rod) Thornley, Heather (Nate) Richardson, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and near-daughter, Jan Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ann, his brother Michael, one son, Daniel Ralph, and one daughter, Sommer Jan.

The family wishes to thank Community Nursing Services and especially Robert Chandler for his kind care.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Lorrin Farr 5th Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held Wednesday January 14th from 6-8:00 p.m., at the chapel and one hour prior to funeral service.

Interment will be in Ogden City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Aaron's Mortuary & Crematory, 1600 Washington Blvd.
