So sorry to hear about Lavoirs passing, your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I remember him helping me catch up with my chemistry homework while I was hospitalized in high school. He very kind and a bit help getting me through that class. So many fond memories while your family lived in Elgin.

Dr. Banks was my chemistry teacher at E.C.C. for two semesters of General Chemistry and a summer Quantitative Analysis lab class. This was a man with a rare combination of love of the subject matter and interest in teaching. He was patient with abundant questions and answered them without annoyance. In the lecture room, the lab, and office, he was always available. Dr. Banks was one of the best teachers I ever had.
I also detected that his family meant much to him; visiting his home in Century Oaks provided an opportunity to meet them. I can only hope to emulate some of his traits. He was a man wealthy in all that matters. - Mark

Sincere condolences to the Banks family. I remember Dr. Banks well from my years at Elgin Community College, and my husband always enjoyed reminiscing about his years at Dickinson State, from which my husband graduated. He was a marvelous teacher, an admirable role model to his students, and a gentle, kind person. His legacy will live on in those he touched in life.
