Dear Friends and Family,
It is with love and sadness that we share the passing of Lawrence Kelley, who left us peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on September 14, 1934, Lawrence was a proud graduate of Stanford University, where he earned his degree in Engineering. He spent his career as a rocket scientist at MTC, contributing to major advancements in aerospace and defense with quiet brilliance and unwavering dedication.
For over 30 years, Lawrence was the devoted husband of Linda Kelley. Their marriage was one of deep affection, respect, and joy—marked by small but powerful gestures, like the dozen red roses he brought her every Valentine’s Day without fail.
Though Lawrence and Linda had no children, he was a beloved brother-in-law to Vance and a cherished uncle to his nephews. He was a steady, generous presence in their lives and in the lives of many others who knew him.
Lawrence proudly served in the Utah Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he held the honorary rank of Admiral. While he enjoyed sailing his own boat on the Great Salt Lake, he found great purpose in helping fellow boaters across lakes throughout Utah—offering safety checks, instruction, and guidance with calm expertise and quiet humor.
He was also a passionate train enthusiast, filling his home with model railroads, books, and stories of locomotives. His wonder for engineering extended beyond his career—it was simply a part of how he saw the world.
Lawrence’s legacy is one of intellect, service, humility, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of his life will be held later this month. Details will be shared soon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lawrence’s memory to the Stanford University School of Engineering, supporting future generations of innovators and dreamers.
With gratitude
