Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael David Elbert, 44, a devoted father; loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend; beloved teacher, and skilled engineer. Mike’s kindness, ready smile, and gentle strength touched everyone who knew him.

Born April 7, 1981, Mike grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska. In high school, Mike relocated to Barrow, graduating from Barrow High School in 1999. Early on, Mike preferred to work with his hands, pursuing a career in the electrical trade and becoming a journeyman electrician at 22. Always driven to learn and share knowledge, Mike earned a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He relocated to Nevada to pursue the next iteration of his career as an educator, where he devoted his time to teaching and mentoring the next generation of engineers. While building his program and teaching, Mike simultaneously enrolled at Michigan Technological University, earning his master’s degree in engineering in 2018.

Mike’s career blended hands-on skill with a love of teaching. He served for many years in college-based electrical technology programs across Nevada and Utah, including Great Basin College and Utah Valley University. Mike inspired students with practical wisdom, patience, and a contagious enthusiasm for problem solving. In 2023, Mike accepted a lead engineer position in Brigham City, where he continued to lead with integrity and quiet confidence.

A proud and loving father, Mike is survived by his three children: Kaiya, 16; Camdon, 15; and Kade, 12. He is also survived by his parents, Dave and Kelly Elbert of Fairbanks; his siblings Jaime Davis, Jenna Henrie, Holly Hirt, and Taylor Elbert; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Mike cherished every moment with his family — encouraging his children to pursue their passions, taking them camping, teaching them to ride, and showing them the beauty of the outdoors. Mike’s greatest joy was sharing the open trails on his motorcycle, family camping trips beneath the stars, and long cycling rides that renewed his spirit.

Mike experienced life’s challenges with courage. He built a life centered on his children, his work, and the natural world he loved.

Generous, patient, and deeply loving, Mike will be remembered for the many lives he shaped — students who gained confidence under his guidance, colleagues who relied on his steady counsel, and a family who knew his heart. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the trails he loved, and in the three children who carry his laughter and curiosity forward.

A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Lodge Event Center at Perry City Lodge in Perry. The celebration is an open house for those who would like to hear and share stories about Mike. Those who wish to honor him are encouraged to spend time outdoors, teach someone something new, or take a quiet motorcycle ride in his memory.

Mike will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
