Michael Kevin Olsen

Michael Kevin Olsen

May 14, 1964 – February 16, 2021

Michael “Mike” Kevin Olsen, 56, left his earthly body in the early morning hours of February 16, 2021.  Mike grew up in Ogden, Utah and was part of a big, loving “his, mine and ours” family.   He graduated from Green River High School in 1982 and attended Weber State University where he was a proud brother of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  He graduated from Concordia University in Austin Texas.

Mike had many talents including a deep love of cooking inspired by his Mother, Sandy, and years of experience in the restaurant business.  As owner of Big Kev’s Good Eats Cafe, he shared his impressive chef skills with his family, friends and the community.   Mike was a charming “people person” and had a natural gift of authentic salesmanship like his Dad, Mike Sr.   Mike worked for many years in sales in the oil industry in Wyoming and North Dakota.

Mike enjoyed golfing, skiing, motorcycles, the Green Bay Packers, the Yankees, the Dodgers and “hot” cuisine. But most of all he enjoyed quality time with his family and friends.  Mike was very proud of his children, Abigale and Michael, and he loved to brag about their talents and accomplishments.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Michael K. Olsen.   He leaves behind and will be very much missed by his children, “Abby and Mikey”, his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Lyle Evertsen, his stepmother Jessie Olsen, his sister Kym and Tiffany, Suzy, Kristen, Todd, Lisa, Brook, Brett, Nikki and Julie and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Mike will be remembered by his family and friends as someone with a huge heart, someone who was generous, almost to a fault, and someone who loved his family.   Mike also loved the kind and caring staff at Mt. Ogden Rehabilitation Center and our family wishes to express sincere gratitude.

A private family memorial will be held in Mike’s honor.  Memories or notes will be warmly received at bigkevolsen@yahoo.com

Mike was one of my best friends and biggest influences in my youth. We met in 1981 and quickly became the best of friends. Mike taught me how to water ski, snow ski, and golf just to name a few of the activities we enjoyed. Mike had a great laugh - and we made each other laugh every single time we got together or talked. To this day there are several songs that immediately make me think of him. We worked together over the summer painting houses and listening to music in high school, and lived together several years during College. Mike was witty, kind, and compassionate - and giving and sharing was one of his languages of love. Mike was the brother I never had - I admired him and I loved him as I did my immediate family. I take some solace in Mike knowing how I felt about him, and how much he meant to me. My heart hurts along with his family and loved ones. . I miss him now, and I will miss him every time I hear one of those songs. Rest in peace MKO.

I have so many memories of Mike but our family can never forget where it all started - Sandys fine foods! Its where the Poll clan learned all we would ever need to know about food service and catering. Mike was frequently running the show and it seemed we just worked for the amazing leftover food he would create. Then we upgraded from employees & he became my brother in law. During that time we got to be the beneficiaries of many amazing meals. We had a great thing going he cooked and we would clean up and we both felt we were getting the best end of the deal. We worked and we played together then I was so fortunate to have a year of community service together with leadership northern Utah where his big heart and fun loving personality made him one of the most loved members. Mike always had the biggest heart and was willing to give you the shirt of his back. He loved his family and would always tell you all about his kids and joe proud he was of them. He knew he wasnt perfect but always wanted to be better. He had a great laugh and a great smile that will be sorely missed. He always loved our family , treated our son like his own and made time to go to dinner with us when he would be in town. Mike you will be missed- we cant wait to share a meal and laughs together in the next life. We Love you Big Kev, forever.

Mike will be missed. Mike and I worked together in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was a good friend, a great co-worker and an exceptional wireline salesman. Mike was a person you could count on! RIP Mike. I will see you on the other side some day. My condolences to Mike's family. You are in my prayers.
