Paul Evans Barnes

June 3, 1949 — May 12, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Paul Evans Barnes was born on June 3, 1949 to H. Archie Barnes and Pareal E. Barnes. His journey ended on May 12, 2026 at 2 pm; he was 76 years old. He passed from Parkinsons and Lewy Body Dementia. He grew up in Ogden and Roy, Utah. He graduated in 1967 from Roy High School. He used to joke that he got his diploma on one side of the stage and got his draft notice on the other side of the stage. Paul served in Vietnam as a boatsman in the Navy then in operation Desert Shield in the Army as a Medical First Sargent. Paul served his country for 27 years and was very proud of his service and we were proud of him. Paul had wanted to be a nurse and the Army trained him to be one.

He was extremely caring and compassionate as a nurse and as a stepdad where he cared for and was always there for his ten stepsons. He married the love of his life Cheryl S. Rupert on October 24, 2007. He never gave up on his 10 sons no matter what the problem was and the only dad I (Patrick) ever knew. He loved and treated his stepsons like they were his own blood and was always there to lend a hand and show love. He was the best stepdad a guy could ever ask for.

He went home to his mother and father, his brother Brent Barnes and his son Benjamin A. Rupert. He leaves behind his wife Cheryl Barnes and ten sons: Timothy A. Rupert (Lanette) of Syracuse, Utah; Henry V. Rupert (Amy) Chillicothe, Missouri; Jacob A Rupert (Amber) of Elyria, Ohio; Andrew J. Rupert (Keely) of Zanesville, Ohio; Matthew A. Rupert of Clinton, Utah; Patrick E. Rupert of West Point, Utah; Robert A. Rupert (Ian) Maricopa, Arizona; Nicholas W. Rupert (Bri) Harrisville, Utah and Alex J. Rupert of Elyria, Ohio; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Burns and Susannah Call and brother-in-law Rick Call. He left behind 29 grandkids with one on the way and one great-grandkid and several nieces and nephews.

Paul will be terribly missed and there will never be another man like him. We would like to thank George E. Wahlen Veterans Home volunteers for the amazing work they did for him as well as Bristol Hospice. Thanks especially to Robin his nurse and the front counter worker Daphne who was always smiling and compassionate and all of the aides he was close to, you know who you are.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Syracuse Cemetery at 1250 South 1000 West on Tuesday at 11 am on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
