Paul Emiel Smits reunited with his beloved son, Brian, and his parents on April 18, 2025, on the Good Friday prior to Easter.
In keeping with his strong resolve until the last he desired to keep on fighting renal cancer, but his heart and body could not.
Described by many as having a kind heart, a quick humor and with a strong shoulder to lean on, he was well-liked as a customer service and recovery agent for the past nine years retiring in 2024.
Paul loved baseball, reading, watching a good mystery, and cooking when his health would permit it.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Gorny; an older sister, Simona; three daughters: Lisa, Amy and Samantha; and 7 grandchildren.
He was born on August 15, 1952, in Somerville, NJ. His mother, Clotilda Jensen and father, Henry Neopold-Cornelius Smits having emigrated from Belgium. The story is told that his father put his mother on a ship to the U.S. and paid a little extra to include his sister for the passage at the last minute to avoid the coming hostilities and that his father was forced to bake bread for the invading force during World War II.
Paul loved a good story and passed many such stories on to others. He liked people and most everyone liked him.
A remembrance is scheduled at Aaron's Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, UT on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 1 p.m., with his ashes to be interred at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park Reflections Garden at a later date.
In his remembrance he would ask you to be kind to others because you never know what they might be going through.
