Paul Stephen Widmark
“Pastor Paul”
March 30, 1963 – December 18, 2021
Paul Stephen Widmark finished his earthly race and ran to meet Jesus on the evening of December 18, 2021.
Born to Donnell and Lynn (Malter) Widmark in Burbank, CA on March 30, 1963, he always had memories to share of his years growing up in Southern California, Florida, Oregon, and Washington. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1981.
Paul enlisted in the Army Reserves, which eventually brought him to Utah. He attended Weber State College and then started his painting business, where he held himself to high standards and expected the same from those he worked with. He developed many lifelong friendships, and would often point out homes he’d painted as we drove through neighborhoods all these years later.
Paul met Debbie at a little church they both attended, and after a few years of friendship, they married on a very snowy Christmas Eve 1988. He was blessed and proud to be Dad to five daughters: Sarah, Jacqueline, Jaylynn, Cerci, and Shaina. He loved each of them more than he could ever express. He gained the cherished title of “Grandpa” with the births of Corin, Devri, and Robert. He loved his family dearly.
A battle with cancer brought about a change of careers for Paul. A friend walked him through the early days of developing his mortgage business, and being a “people person”, Paul worked hard and excelled. His focus was always on people first, and that showed in the continued relationships with his clients long after “business” was completed. The last 5 ½ years he found his perfect fit with Fairway, whose values mirrored his, and he loved being a part of the Fairway Family. We are so grateful to them.
He valued relationships with people more than anything, and just about anywhere we went, he’d encounter someone he knew. “Paul knows everybody,” was a standard saying among his friends.
Paul’s passion was JESUS, and he shared the love of Jesus freely with everyone he encountered. He was devoted to his role as Care Pastor at the Genesis Project. He loved being “Pastor Paul”, and that role extended far beyond the walls of the church. Words can never convey how much each one of you meant to him, he truly loved you. Even on his last days on this side of eternity, as he struggled to breathe, Paul talked to his medical team about Jesus and His love for them. On a speakerphone call with one of his doctors, after she discussed his physical status that evening, he shared the gospel message with her. She thanked him for sharing something she’d never heard before. That was Paul.
Paul will be greatly missed by all those he leaves behind. In addition to Debbie and their daughters and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Terry and his sister Joy.
Enjoy heaven. Well done. We love you.
