Robert Wesley “Bob” Nelson passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, returning to his Savior and Heavenly Parents.
Bob was born on July 8, 1950, in Brigham City, Utah, at Cooley Hospital. He was raised in Mantua, Utah, where he attended the Mantua one-room schoolhouse before continuing his education at Mountain View Elementary, Box Elder Middle School, and graduating from Box Elder High School with the Class of 1968.
Bob proudly served his country as an auxiliary gunner in the Utah National Guard. He also faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Kentucky-Tennessee Mission, an experience that shaped his lifelong devotion to his faith.
He met the love of his life, Kaylin Sorensen of Logan, Utah, and they were married for time and all eternity on March 20, 1975, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Bob was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, including in bishoprics as a counselor and clerk, but his favorite role was as a Primary teacher. He was especially loved for his kindness, his enthusiasm, and his well-known “giant bag of Juju Fish,” rewarding children who brought their scriptures with colorful treats and encouragement.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Kay; his children: Kerry (Joseph) Garvin, Kami Starks, Kandis (Cody) Brice, Kasidy Nelson (Cory) and Cortney Nelson; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose legacy of faith and generosity will live on through those who knew him.
A Festivus for the Rest of Us will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Aaron’s Mortuary, 888 South Main Street, Brigham City, Utah.
In Bob’s remembrance, the family asks that donations be made to the Red Cross or that you consider giving blood—causes that were close to Bob’s heart.
