Ronald Bowman

May 17, 1958 — April 23, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Ron was born on May 17, 1958 in Fort Defiance, Arizona to Charles Bowman and Earlene Smith. He spent most of his childhood in Sawmill, Arizona. Around the age of 8 he was enrolled in the Indian Placement Program with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Ron's’High school years were spent on the farm with the Young Family in Sterling, Utah. During this time he would help on the dairy farm and in his spare time Bull riding in various rodeos throughout Utah. When he came of age, he chose to serve a LDS Mission. He served with the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. This is where he first met his wife Lenora J Yazzie who was also serving her Mission.

After his mission he continued his studies as a Mechanic. Around this time he married his wife Lenora Bowman and lived in Provo, Utah. They had their first born Rachel and with prefect timing they had Christopher, Nathan and finally Michelle. Each was 2 years apart. They settled down in Layton, Utah across from Lenora’s family… The Morgans. For the past 39 years they have lived here. Ron had many different mechanics jobs however, the one he stayed with the longest was with Hill Air Force Base for over 20 years.

Ron enjoyed spending time with each of his kids. He was close to his daughter Rachel and was present at each of his granddaughters births. He loved taking his granddaughters to the movies and to dinner. He was very proud of both of his sons and would tell anyone who would listened about them serving in the Navy. Ron loved spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping with his sons. Since 2020, with his daughter Michelle he got into BTS (a Band from South Korea) he even had a bias (J-Hope and Suga) and went to the Jhope Concert in California. He also got interested in Korean or Chinese Dramas which was quite a surprise since he mostly enjoyed action and martial arts Shows. It was even funnier when you would hear him yell at the tv “Just tell her you like her, You Dip.” This was a new interest none of us thought he would get into. About 3 years ago, Ron got his first Grandson Leo! He was lucky enough to spend so much time playing and enjoying his time with him. Ron would always loudly say “Ashkiiyázhí” or “Ashkii” which in Navajo translate to Little boy. He would call Leo that all the time to which Leo would stop calling him “Cheii” (In Navajo translates to Grandpa) and start calling him “Akeeeeeee." Leo and Ron sure had a special bond, they even had matching camo sweatsuits and crocs!Ron took pride in his health by being active at the gym and working on getting back into silversmithing. He loved taking care of his ducks and chickens with his granddaughter Alani. As pops would say “Alani is my Johnny on the spot.”

Ron is survived by his wife, Lenora, sons:  Christopher Bowman (daughter in law, Melanie)  and Nathan Bowman, daughter, Michelle; his Grandson Leo and  granddaughters Kendra Philllips, Raihiti, Dani and Alani Fritz.

Ron is preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Lee Bowman and his granddaughter, Raina.Nanabah Bowman along with all the pubbys’ and kitties.  "As he would say “I went out with my boots on.”
