Rosile Laura Gomez Mitchell was gently reunited with her beloved Mitch early Saturday, April 19 with her family by her side.
Known affectionately as Rose or Rosie to those that knew her, she was among 10 children, born in Ogden, Utah to Epfano and Helen Gomez. She met and married the love of her life, Mitch, while he was stationed in Ogden. He did his damndest to charm her father and learned Spanish to be able to speak to her parents. He was able to convince her father of his intentions, and he asked Epfano for her hand. She was the only daughter to marry. They were wed in Las Vegas at the Wee Kirk O’The Heather with the bride dressed in a daisy yellow gown on his birthday. Rose embraced his children, Deborah (Shawn) Kornegay and Rob Mitchell. They enjoyed fishing trips together to Magic Valley, Idaho to see his parents.
Heidi was born in 1977 during a deployment to the Indian Ocean and Rose had her sisters by her side. Not long after his return, they moved to Alameda Naval Station, CA where she was a homemaker and Navy wife. They returned to Pleasant View, UT after Mitch’s retirement from the Navy and she continued to be a homemaker until they moved to North Ogden in 1985.
She was employed by Vita-tech and then Cal-Pro and retired from the latter as a Department Manager. She enjoyed camping in their fifth wheel with friends, ceramics, photography, doll making, gardening, collecting and her beloved pets. She loved Halloween and Christmas and celebrated them with elaborate costumes and decorations.
She chose her retirement year specifically to be able to spend time with her granddaughters, Autumn and Vanessa.
Preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Josephine (Adolpho) Mendez, sisters Vi, Cecelia and Thresa, brothers Jack, Ernie, Louis, Philbert, Ralph (Lollyboy) and his namesake Ralph who passed in childhood.
Surviving are her daughter, Heidi (Russ) Wallis, stepchildren Deborah (Shawn) Kornegay, Rob (Vicki) Mitchell, grandchildren Autumn, Vanessa, and Savannah, Khrystyn, Amanda and Brandon, eight great grandchildren, nephew Louie (Amy) Gomez and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Rose was among the most stubborn of women and she lived life on her terms. Anyone who really knew her will attest to that. She and I are most definitely cut from the same cloth, only sewn together differently. - Heidi
