In Loving Memory of Rufino Eugenio “Murph” Montoya

Rufino Eugenio Montoya, fondly known as Murph, passed away at the age of 86 in Ogden, Utah. Born in Bingham, Utah, Murph lived a life of service, hard work, and joy.

As a young man, Murph proudly served in the United States Army, where he embodied the same determination and grit that would define the rest of his life. After his military service, he built a career as a skilled machinist. He loved cars—working on them, talking about them, and sharing that passion with others.

Murph also had a playful side. He enjoyed the thrill of slot machines and the laughter that came with the game. He lived with a spark—mischievous at times, full of stories, and always true to who he was.

Murph was the proud father of four children: Gina Montoya VanderWoude, Synthia Montoya, Danny DeHerrera, and Ron Montoya (wife Lisa). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his brothers Louis Montoya and Robert “Bobby” Montoya.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Celestino Montoya and Pearl Eva Montoya (Spencer); his brothers David Montoya, Peter Montoya, Max Montoya, and Richard Montoya; his sisters Juanita Montoya, Margie Hansel; his grandson Jonathan McBride; and his nephew Spencer Montoya.

Murph will be remembered for his service to his country, his skill as a machinist, and, above all, the love and laughter he brought to his family. His family will gather privately to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
