Shannon E. Byers

Ogden- Shannon Elizabeth Byers, 54, lost her battle with COPD and passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 12:09 p.m. in her home surrounded by her children.

Shannon was born March 9, 1969 in Iowa City, Iowa and lived with her mother Jerri L. Byers in Des Moines, Iowa until they moved to Ogden, Utah in 1976. She grew up in Ogden where she raised her children and met her soulmate Charles Ballinger on July 13, 1999. They were later married on February 15, 2004. She attended Weber State University where she studied communications, radio, TV and film; she enjoyed being a D.J. for Weber State's 88.1 and went by Rebecca Shannon while on the air.

Shannon lived every day like it was her last. She danced, sang and partied. There was never a dull moment with her around. She was always joking and laughing. She'd jump in puddles then squeak her shoes walking in the store after. She enjoyed watching movies, writing poetry, tarot, coloring (or any craft really), and listening to music. Most of all she loved her family. She enjoyed her two grandsons and cuddling with her dog Walter. She enjoyed people and loved to talk about everything. She especially loved talking with her daughters. She always had ideas she wanted to share of things she wanted to try, shows we needed to watch or places we needed to go. She encouraged us to try new things and always supported whatever decisions we made. If she were here now she would tell you that her greatest accomplishments in life would be her children and grandchildren. Mom, we know you took the long way home but we hope you found your grace along the way. You will be missed greatly.

Shannon was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Ballinger, her mother Jerri L. Byers, her grandmother Lelah Allbaugh, her grandfather Warren Allbaugh and her father figure: Michael Allred.

Shannon is survived by her daughter Megan and son-in-law Kyle Garrison and their children: Steve and Warren, her daughter Saige Byers, sons: Blaze and Cole Duren, her step-son Harley Yocum, her honorary sister Ambere Holmes and her beloved dog Walter.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time for extended family and friends.

We’d also like to thank the amazing staff at IHC Homecare and Hospice for all of their help and guidance in her final days.
