Sheryl Lynn Hunter passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 23, 2025 surrounded by loved ones in Layton, Utah. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Hecker and Olla Saglime; her children: Joshua Hunter, Amber Hunter, Jeremiah Hunter, Jared Hunter, and Autumn Ellsworth; and her beloved grandchildren: Kylie, Lance, Garrett, Chase, Emily, Jacob, Brin, Dane, Owen, Samantha, and Isaac.

Sheryl was born on January 15, 1954, in San Diego, California, to Wilbur and Ida Mose. The youngest of four children, she grew up in El Cajon with her siblings Gary, Nancy, and Olla. After attending Brigham Young University, Sheryl met Marc Hunter while home on a school break. They married and later welcomed five children—Joshua, Amber, Jeremiah, Jared, and Autumn. Although Sheryl and Marc eventually divorced, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her family and never remarried.

A hardworking and loving mother, Sheryl built her life around her children and, later, her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She eventually moved to Utah to be closer to them and quickly embraced her lifelong passions for the outdoors. Sheryl loved hiking mountain trails, camping under the stars, kayaking on quiet water, capturing nature through photography, and playing her guitar.

Sheryl cherished her family deeply. Her bond with her sisters was a lifelong treasure, and she looked forward to every visit and conversation they shared. Known for her sweet nature, quick wit, and unforgettable one-liners, she had a gift for making others smile. She was compassionate, patient, and always eager to help those around her. A lifelong animal lover—especially of dogs—Sheryl never met one she didn’t adore.

Though she grew to love Utah’s mountains, she always held a special place in her heart for the ocean and her hometown of San Diego.

Sheryl lived with kindness, humor, and a deep love for the people and places that shaped her life. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
