Sylvia Joan Pitzler passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Eden, Utah, from natural causes, at the age of 91. She was born on May 12, 1934, in Redwood City, California, and lived a life defined by hard work, boundless love, and an open heart that never let anyone go hungry.

Sylvia grew up with her two sisters Vera and Rachel. She married Donald Sargent, and together they adopted their beloved son, Tony Sargent, whom she adored with her whole heart. She later found her greatest love in Douglas Pitzler, and through their union she gained a beautiful and devoted stepdaughter, Sabrina. Sylvia and Doug shared 45 wonderful years together. When Doug passed away on March 21, 2025, Sylvia carried on with quiet grace. In a moment that could only be described as poetic, she chose to leave this world on the very day, one year later, that he was laid to rest.

When Doug's health declined, Sylvia devoted herself entirely to his care, tending to him with love and dedication until his passing. After which, her son Tony and daughter-in-law Terry traveled to California to bring Sylvia home to Utah to live with them. She was so happy and content there, cherishing every moment with her family close by.

Sylvia worked every single day of her life until the age of 85, a testament to her remarkable work ethic and spirit. She began her career at Whizin's supermarket and the Edge of Town Mexican Restaurant. She then trained as a chef at Kay's Gourmet Catering in Agoura Hills, California, where she worked alongside her son Tony for ten rewarding years. During that same period, she and Tony co-owned an exotic fruit booth at the renowned Renaissance Pleasure Fair, held in Agoura Hills and Black Point-Novato, California. She then spent 21 distinguished years as a chef at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake, California, before rounding out her career with part-time kitchen work at Camarillo Springs Golf Course.

She lived the majority of her life without knowing her father's identity. In her later years, a DNA test brought the unexpected gift of discovering not only who her father was, but that she had several siblings.

Sylvia is survived by her son Tony Sargent (Terry Sargent), stepdaughter Sabrina Segall (Mark Segall), grandchildren, Megan Castillo (Jon Castillo), Michael Sargent (Teddi Sargent), great grandchildren, Kaija Castillo, JR Castillo, Brielle Sargent along with all of her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

She was known and loved for her homemade Mexican food, her beautiful crocheting, and the stunning garden that Doug created for her at their Camarillo home. Her favorite flower was the red rose, and her favorite color was purple. Anyone who knew Sylvia knew instantly how deeply she loved them. She never complained, never stopped smiling, and never let a soul leave her presence without feeling fed and cherished.

She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sylvia will be cremated and no services will be held.
