Vera Amoy Ermatinger

November 23, 1930 — March 10, 2018

Vera Amoy Aina Ermatinger, age 87, passed away at her home on Saturday March 10th, 2018.  She was born on November 23rd, 1930 to Ah Kui and Julia Aina in Hilo, Hawaii.  She was the ninth child out of 18 siblings.  She was hanai to Solomon and Elizabeth Kanaele.  On December 30th, 1950, she married James G. Ermatinger Senior in Waikiki Honolulu, Hawaii.  They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2009.

She spent her early years in Hilo, Hawaii and attended Hilo High School.  She met her husband at the KMC in Hawaii National Park.  James was in the Air Force and worked for the Federal Government and they traveled to various parts of the world for his job.  Both of them liked to travel and enjoyed raising their children.    

She loved her family and was a strong, caring, optimistic, and wholesome wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She was a reserved person, but when she laughed, she could make the whole room light up with her.  She was very family oriented and planned many family gatherings and activities. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, listening to country music, and the arts of knitting and crocheting.. 

She looked forward to visiting her siblings and playing various card games with them, especially Rummy and Trumps.  She gave service where she could and was a member of the LDS church. She loved the Lord and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. 

She is survived by her sisters, Nani Villaverde and Myra Aina-Paul and her brother, Henry Aina and adopted brother, Edward Aina all residing in Hilo, Hawaii, her children:  Jim (Lilian), Rex (Rita), Janice, Alex, Bryan (Donna), Kalikolehua , 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Charles, eight brothers: Ah Kui Edward, Charles, Raymond, William, Kanekoa, Frederic, Noah, and adopted brother, Kalani, and five sisters: Miriam, Lei Lani, Puaokina, Jane, and Kathleen.  The family would like to send a special “Thanks” to the Hospice for Utah’s staff:   CNAs: Debbie, Tammy, Brittany, and Kylee and Nurses, Alice and Rita for taking care of mom and Jed, Julia, and Gaylen for additional support.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11 am at the LDS Church located at 3270 Orchard Ave, Ogden, Utah.  A viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:30 am prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11 am at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 S Camp Williams Rd, Bluffdale Utah.
