Vonda Marie Hall Smith, Brigham City, Utah, was born August 9, 1944, to Carrol and Bernice (Iverson) Hall, and died peacefully at her home August 8, 2025.
Vonda was a lover of people, of nature, and of joy. She spent countless hours and days in the desert – kicking rocks, looking for relics, and connecting with the silent breeze. You could always count on her to attend a pow-wow, pitch a lodge, or head to a horse race. Her yard was always on point, boasting a plethora of thriving plants, fish, and usually a dog. She made life inviting and serene wherever she was.
Vonda was a natural artist and painted realistic, mystic, and jaw dropping works. She played guitar and many folks reveled in creating music with her. She was a learner of history, appreciating the legacy of the past which shapes the future.
A young Vonda married Blake Knight, and they welcomed their son Rob. She later married Jerry Smith and blended families (Rob, Doug, Becky, Chris), while residing in Plain City. After their divorce she called Bear River City home for more than four decades.
Her spirit will continue to inspire respect for the Earth, to listen to ancient wisdom, and to explore the human experience.
She is survived by her son Rob (Rachel) Knight, step-kids Doug and Becky Smith, grandkids Jason (Vixyn), Dallas and Elle Knight, Sarah and Danielle Newlun, three great-grandkids, two great-great-grands, and two of her three sisters, Janet (Sam) Evans, and Carlene Jelesnik.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband Jerry Smith.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 16, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Bear River City Park, 5900 N. 4600 W.
