Dr. Jerry “J.R.” Greenwood passed away on Saturday, Jan 2, 2021after a period of declining health. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home in Utah.
He was born on March 5, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lynn and LaVon Greenwood, the eldest of two children. While he was still young his family relocated to northern California. He was a graduate of the School of Optometry at the University of California Berkeley.
In 1961 he married the love of his life, Judy, in the chapel at the Presidio in San Francisco. They were later sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Following Jerry’s graduation from U.C. Berkeley, he was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army. After his military service he enjoyed many successful years of private practice in California. Judy and Jerry eventually purchased a home with some land. Here they raised their five children in a home full of love and laughter.
Jerry and Judy enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family house boating on Lake Shasta, and staying in cabins at Blue Lake Springs. He was always sharing a good "dad" joke and considered himself within the family to be "The Great Whazoo"!
Following retirement, and as health concerns became a factor, he and Judy decided to move to Utah to be closer to family. They alternated between their own homes, convalescent homes, and living under the watchful care of their youngest son and his family.
Jerry and Judy never enjoyed being separated for very long, and Judy preceded him in death by only four week's time. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, his five children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
No memorial services are planned in accordance with Jerry’s wishes. The family wishes to thank all of the many doctors, nurses and caregivers for their efforts in his behalf.
