Our beloved Shaylee (Shay) Joyce Achter passed away on Friday, April 30, in Layton, Utah, at the home of her grandparents. She was born on May 1, 2000, in Murray, Utah, to Dan and Tammy Achter.
Shaylee was raised in Taylorsville and graduated high school from AISU. She was a brilliant and gifted person and very artistic. She loved nature, hiking to King’s Peak twice with her Dad. She enjoyed skiing the slopes of Snowbasin and other ski resorts with her family. Shay enjoyed music and played the piano and the flute. She was an avid reader and especially devoured fantasy novels. She liked playing games with her friends, siblings and cousins. Shaylee loved animals, especially her cats and her family’s chickens. She could imitate the sounds of the chickens quite convincingly.
Shaylee was adored by her siblings: Cole (24), Silas (9), and Macy (6). Shaylee had been the youngest child for 12 years when her baby brother Silas was born. She adored him like her own baby and held him and sang songs to calm him. She had a special bond with Silas and loved playing video games with him for hours.
Cole wrote this tribute to his sister:
I knew Shaylee from the moment she was born to the bitter end,and love her forever and always. I couldn’t have asked for a better friend to grow up with. Even though depression took a huge toll in her final moments she would always find a way to cheer you up and make you laugh.
Rest in peace to my flute player
My music lover
My commander in mischief
My life consultant
My best friend
My little sister.
Your big brother misses you
I love you
Shaylee is survived by an army of those who loved her, including her adoring family, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and both sets of grandparents, Kay and Ruth Achter and Val and Joyce Rollins.
